I took a few readings and saw that I was getting over 3000MB/s write speeds and over 2300MB/s read speeds. Without changing anything about the card - including using each drive individually and not in a RAID configuration - I ran a speed test using Blackmagic’s Disk Speed Test. Here is a list of compatible SSDs from Sonnet’s website. These are enterprise-level SSD cards that can retail for over $1,400 apiece, but there are cheaper SSD cards you can use. Sonnet sent the Fusion card with two Micron 7.68TB U.2 SSDs already installed. Keep that in mind when contemplating purchasing the Sonnet Fusion Dual U.2 SSD PCIe card. In addition, 2.5-inch SATA and SAS SSDs are not supported, so it’s the U.2 SSD drives or nothing. Please note that this card does not come with the two 2.5-inch U.2 SSD drives that are required to be used with the Fusion Dual U.2 PCIe card. In fact, when installing in the 2019 Mac Pro the grip helps you push the card into the PCIe slot much easier than just the card itself. The card itself actually has an aluminum grip on the side to help when installing, but it can be removed by unscrewing the Torx T8 screws. When I first opened the box, I noticed that the Fusion card is full-length, measuring 12.283 inches long, so if you have a small computer tower, this card will be a tight fit. (Note that Windows and Linux cannot boot from this.) And if you are a legacy Mac Pro 5,1 user (aka the cheese grater), this can allow you to install the macOS on one drive and use the other for storage. The card is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux. What’s interesting is that typical SSD PCIe cards need additional drivers and/or BIOS updates, but the Sonnet Fusion does not, which makes installation easy. Whether you are looking to expand your fast storage with two additional SSD drives or are looking to add a super-fast RAID-0 set of drives, the Fusion PCIe card is up to the task. The Sonnet Fusion Dual U.2 SSD PCIe card can take additional storage to the next level and retails for $199.99 (without the U.2 SSD drives you’ll need to get up and running). If you already have some sort of SSD drive installed, the next step is to add an another drive and make it as fast as possible. If you have a spinning hard drive in your system and are trying to edit video, you should look into switching that out for an SSD drive. But in truth, it’s the combination of CPU speed, GPU, memory and hard drive speed.įor this review, I am focusing on hard drive speed. their elevation profiles are all attached to the reference line.If you talk to any post nerd, myself included, about building their own computer or which internal components speed up editing, color correcting and VFX workflows, you’re bound to get a bunch of different answers. The ASAM OpenDRIVE road network is modelled along the reference line, which is the core piece of every road. This facilitates a high degree of specialization for individual applications (usually simulations) while maintaining the interoperability that is required for the exchange of data between different applications. The format is organized in nodes that can be extended with user defined data. Road data may be manually created from road network editors, conversion of map data, or originate from converted scans of real-world roads. Providing a standardized format for road descriptions also enables the industry to reduce the cost of creating and converting these files for their development and testing purposes. With the help of ASAM OpenDRIVE, these road network descriptions can be exchanged between different simulators. The main purpose of ASAM OpenDRIVE is to provide a road network description that can be fed into simulations to develop and validate ADAS and AD features. The road networks that are described in the ASAM OpenDRIVE file can either be synthetic or based on real data. The data that is stored in an ASAM OpenDRIVE file describes the geometry of roads, lanes and objects, such as roadmarks on the road, as well as features along the roads, like signals. The ASAM OpenDRIVE format provides a common base for describing road networks with extensible markup language (XML) syntax, using the file extension xodr. (The download of the standard ASAM OpenDRIVE is free of charge)

Class D amplifiers are used in many applications, including powered subwoofers, powered speakers, mobile applications (to save battery power), andīass amplifiers. Because of their efficiency, they require a smaller heat sink which reduces size and cost. Practically, efficiencies of over 90% are achievable, thus reducing the amount of heat produced. All Class D amplifiers are not digital, but the term is often used for Class D amplifiers with significant amounts of digital processing in them.Ĭlass D amplifiers are noted for their very high efficiency, so they are often used where a high level of power is required, such as driving large subwoofers. Class D is sometimes misinterpreted as being synonymous with “digital,” but that is not the case. The high frequency switching produces undesirable frequencies which are removed by a low pass filter, leaving only those relevant to the input signal. The amplifier uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to convert the input signal to a series of pulses, which in turn drive the power devices, which deliver a changing voltage into a fixed load such as a subwoofer. The speed of the switches must be much higher than the desired frequencies of the input signal. We designed specific circuitry that reduces distortion further and increasing the sound quality and power.Īmplifier, Class D – In simple terms, a Class D amplifier is an electronic amplifier where the power devices, usually MOSFETs, are operating as binary switches, being either fully on or fully off. The “gain” of an amplifier is the ratio of output to input power or amplitude, and is usually measured in decibels (dB).Īmplifier, Class A/B – Class A/B amplifiers have been long known for their ability to produce great quality (Class A portion) while having efficiency better than pure Class A amplifiers. Basically the amplifier acts as the power source for the car sound system by modulating the power generated by the car battery to allow the speakers to reach their full potential. When adding aftermarket components, an amplifier is often necessary to provide additional output to the speakers and subwoofers. The “head” unit (such as a radio or CD player) in a car has limited power and typically does not have the power to operate additional or larger speakers. AWG is identical to the Brown and Sharpe (B & S) wire gauge.Īmplifier – Simply put, an amplifier (amp) is a device for increasing the power of a signal. The science of production, effects and transmission of sound waves through various mediums, and the effects of absorption, diffraction, interference, reflection, and refraction.Īlternator – A device that is turned by a motor to produce AC voltage, which is then rectified (turned into DC) and used to supply voltage to the vehicle’s electrical system.Īlternator Whine – A whining that is heard when the RPM of an engine increase – usually the result of a voltage differential created by more than one ground path or a poor ground path (ground loop).Īmerican Wire Gauge (AWG) – A standard of the dimensional characteristics of wire used to conduct electrical current or signals. AĪccessory (position) – Refers to the position of the key in the ignition switch A wire showing 12 Volts (+) when in this position.Īcoustics – The study of sound. Please note this particular amp needs a healthy electrical system that is capable of delivering the current the amp demands. This amp can comfortably power speakers with all channel(s) being used at a 2 ohm load.ġ Ohm Stable – An amplifier that is capable of delivering power at a 1 ohm load is usually reserved for serious subwoofers that can take the power. 4 Ohm Stable – The lowest impedance accepted by the amplifier will be 4 Ohm, which won’t be a problem, as most automotive speakers are 4 ohm impedance.Ģ Ohm Stable – Amplifiers capable of powering speakers at lower impedance produce more power. The episode's main plot certainly could've been better, but the TARDIS element was a well-executed tribute to the Doctor's most loyal companion. This news summary on the tenth 21st Century season of Doctor Who will be updated regularly as more details are revealed. The intriguing Architectural Reconfiguration Room, the huge TARDIS library, a blistering sequence set inside the Eye of Harmony, swimming pools, storage rooms, and more: it made the TARDIS feel as expansive as we were often told it was. The idea for Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS stemmed from Steven Moffat's frustration with the 1978 serial The Invasion of Time, which he deemed "disappointing" due to its depiction of the TARDIS interior (production issues forced these scenes to be filmed in a not-so visually impressive disused hospital).Īs a result, Moffat wanted Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS to atone for what he thought was a lacklustre portrayal of the Doctor's iconic machine, and though you could argue that the episode doesn't go far enough in showcasing all the weird and wonderful sights lurking within, it nonetheless provided our most in-depth TARDIS experience to date - something fans had been hankering to see for quite some time. Ms Ellis suggests being a wallpaper historian is a bit like playing an interior detective. People remember wallpaper more than the sofa they had – maybe because it’s in your eyeline all the time.” I remember orange and green geometric florals in our house and I think it’s like any kind of fashion – there are pendulum swings. “I think if you did live through that time that you never forget the wallpaper. “If you look at the 80s and 90s everybody had, white walls and tubular furniture and then IKEA had a big influence on getting everybody to have things very plain and Scandi.”Įllis herself was a child of the 70s and so, like me, has never forgotten the wallpaper of that time. ‘Patterns can take you back to a moment in time,’ according to the exhibition’s curator Olivia Heron (Photo: The Whitworth) Lucy Ellis, a committee member of the Wallpaper History Society, said choices are cyclical and follow trends: “ is a bit like clothing in that it is influenced by what’s going on in the outside world – I think when there’s a bit of a slump, people need cheering up and they turn to pattern to lift their spirits and when times are better, people go minimalist. The Covid-19 lockdowns gave many people a chance to consider what was on the walls around them but fewer people do their own wallpapering these days and for those people living in rented accommodation, adding wallpaper may not be possible. Today, plain walls are often seen as more fashionable with the occasional wallpaper feature wall making an appearance. In the 30s wallpaper was even advertised as having psychological benefits – adverts suggested you were failing your children if you didn’t choose a nice wallpaper. There was a huge house building programme in the 20s and 30s and for these new suburban houses the idea of bringing the garden inside through wallpaper was fashionable so big florals proved popular. The Victorians were particularly fond of flowery wallpaper and after the First World War the time was right for its resurgence. The wallpaper industry was traditionally based in the North West of England, as it was linked with the cotton industry and shared some of the same machinery. Floods of memories come out – both warm and sometimes difficult memories.” People have been really excited to share their stories. Patterns can take you back to a moment in time. In its heyday wallpaper saw inside it all: Law courts, pubs, manor houses, council flats, shopping, fights, meals, politics, parties, loneliness, housework, laughter, desire, bath-time, DIY, play, music, addiction, television, pets, rest, illness, fear, hunger, mess, grief, excess, prayer, death, boredom and joy all muddied our views of the wallpaper.” Eugene Sobers submitted a photo of her wallpaper as part of the project at The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester (Photo: supplied)Įxhibition curator Olivia Heron says: “They were the backdrop to so much life. The Open House website says: “Until now we haven’t recorded the stories provoked by these patterns. Now, the Whitworth gallery in Manchester, which has curated more than 10,000 wallpapers in its collection, from cheap and cheerful factory remnants to older hand printed examples, is encouraging people to bring in photos of themselves with their wallpaper and talk about the memories they bring back as part of its Open House project. The way we cover our walls can reveal as much about us as the clothes we choose to wear. It was a green and turquoise pattern and although my memory of the design was slightly different from the reality, I am sure its presence in my childhood has influenced the fact that I really like 70s design today. I recently asked my mum to dig out an old photograph of me in my bedroom surrounded by my typically 70s wallpaper. Wallpaper can be more than just something to brighten a room or cover a damp patch. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s infamous gold wallpaper in the flat above Number 10 Downing Street may have made weeks of newspaper headlines but the choices that the rest of us make when it comes to home wallcoverings can also live long in the memory. With that said, I got along with the keyboard controls just fine.Īt this point, it should come as no surprise that I'm also impressed by the sheer look of demade Yharnam and its bloodthirsty residents. It may seem like a small thing, but I thought it was neat how she'd transformed this feature into something that worked more appropriately for the constraints of her demake. Here, you can use it to unlock the main house and its other spaces, where in the original, they'd all be wide open. So, some doors can only be opened with a certain amount of Insight in your back pocket, like those back in the Hunter's Dream (a hub world of sorts). Walther could've easily leaned into the mystery element of Insight, but I like that she's made it function like a bog standard key. It's a bit like carrying around a growing wad of cash and it opening doors for you, only the game won't explicitly tell you which and who and what doors. You can purchase Pokeballs from Pokemarts, but at the start of the game they are expensive.Player counts vary from game to game. You can build and craft in Pixelmon, just like in normal Minecraft in fact, you have to. Pixelmon is best played multiplayer rather than single player, but the good news is that there are multiple servers to choose from. The first goal is to find a town, because you will absolutely need a Pokemon Center. Sounds simple enough, but the Pixelmon modpack is challenging. You choose a starting Pokemon and set off on your journey. Pokemon? In Minecraft? Who would have thought? That’s exactly what Pixelmon is, though. RLCraft is not the best modpack for beginners due to the incredible difficulty curve, but it’s a solid choice for experienced players that want a new challenge. Auto-pickup of items is disabled instead, you must manually pick up every drop. There are many new mobs, both hostile and non-hostile, to discover, as well as a different crafting system. The modpack also has an extensive skill system that you can level up over time, choosing the abilities that best suit your playstyle. This places a stronger emphasis on armor and ensuring the soft parts of the body are protected. If a critical area is damaged, you can die regardless of how much health the rest of the body has. A fall might result in damage to your feet, while an attack from an enemy might damage your arms. Each body part has its own health system, as well as an overall system for your body and head. RLCraft doesn’t use the traditional Minecraft health system, either. If you find water, you have to purify it. It has a focus on survival and requires you to manage your food, water, temperature, and other factors. This Minecraft modpack provides a brutally difficult challenge, particularly at the start. If you have mastered the base game of Minecraft and you’re looking for something new, RLCraft is the way to go. Nothing says, “Welcome to Minecraft,” quite like a surprise Creeper in the middle of your base. Underground is dark, and mobs spawn in dimly lit areas. Stoneblock presents a unique challenge that will keep you playing long into the night. While an adventure underground might seem depressing, there is so much variety in the gameplay that you’ll forget that you are so far from the sun. There are multiple dimensions to explore, mobs to fight, and treasures to find. Most of these are random, and often you will receive items you have absolutely no use for at that moment (although they will come in handy later.) This is another progression-focused modpack that can be a bit brain-bending at times. For each quest you complete, you are given a reward. Like Sky Factory, there are a huge number of mods included in Stoneblock. With no tools but your fists, you must build equipment and progress through a series of quests. Rather than starting on a single block in the sky, you begin in a single room deep beneath the earth, surrounded on all sides by stone. Stoneblock is kind of the modpack-opposite to Sky Factory. There’s a reason why Sky Factory 4 is commonly featured on Twitch streams–it’s a lot of fun to play, and just as much fun to watch. The first part of Sky Factory 4 is focused on resource gathering, but players can eventually automate the majority of this and move on to exploring new dimensions, improving their armor, and much more. It will take hours upon hours of play to reach even mid-game, but each phase of the mod feels completely different. However, Sky Factory 4 isn’t a short Minecraft modpack. This list also acts as a pseudo guide, pointing players to what steps they should take next. The primary goal is to work through a huge list of achievements. Mods like Mekanism, Tinkerers, Better Advancements, and more make up the entirety of the modpack and bring the Minecraft world to life in brand new ways. Players utilize these trees to gather the resources they need until their base can grow more, and then other in-game resources can be added. In Sky Factory 4, trees make up the primary method of gathering resources, and the pack introduces a variety of different trees: sand trees, coal trees, iron trees, etc. Based on the “skyblock” premise, players start off on a single block in the sky and must expand outward. Sky Factory is one of the most well-known Minecraft modpacks out there. has comprehensive in-game guides you can refer to when confused about how things work. It’s a fun pack to spend time in, but it will take you some time to learn how the different mechanics work. is a complex Minecraft modpack that brings all of the difficulty of its namesake into the world of Minecraft. Plants like the Cinderbloom can randomly set you ablaze just by walking over them. In fact, enemies grow stronger the longer you spend in-game. |
